Chicago Gourmet 2013 was a great success! Aside from the beautiful sunny warm weather, the food was delicious and the wines and cocktails were flowing! We were excited to share our favorites from the fest.
Our first stop was the Blue Moon tent, the very first tent when you arrive. We were pleasantly surprised to learn about their new beer-wine hybrids and tasted their Chardonnay Blonde called Proximity which was light and refreshing!
Did somebody say tequila? Who doesn’t love tequila?! We made sure to not miss the Zignum Mezcal tent to try some Mango Tequila cocktail heaven at their beautiful leather bar. The team shared all about agave from Mexico. YUM!
One of our first food stops upon entering what is the massive Chicago Gourmet was the NoMI Kitchen tent. Chef Ryan LaRoche was serving smoked marlin ceviche tomato vinaigrette with pickled jalapeño which was delicious! Cece (the expert on all spices and zest being a Peruvian native) shared that the Ceviche tasted authentic and fresh.
We made sure to stop by and say hello to friend, chef and owner, Patricio Sandoval with Mercadito who was serving our favorite shrimp tacos with roasted garlic, avocado and chipotle mojo which were spicy and tasty as always!
One of the coolest tents this year was Absolut. They created a vodka called Absolut Chicago! Their booth background was painted with a Chicago skyline. Designs were submitted for the bottle design and Ross Bruggink was the selected winner that designed this bottle.
We had to stop to taste and take a photo at the Lanson station, they had the prettiest bottles and the champagne was very bubbly and crisp.
We learned about a new Prosecco called Sofia Sofia Prosecco which was really light but flavorful. We were drawn to their tent from their pretty packaging and display. This would make the perfect drink for a girl’s night out celebration!
The coolest presentation at Chicago Gourmet this was was Svedka. They constructed an enclosed glass t-shirt making station where you could have a shirt made with the image of their logo and bottle live in front of you. It was a great hit and everyone waited in line to see the magic happen in front of them!
We made sure to stop in the Target tent to see what snacks they were sampling this year. As always, we enjoyed the creative spoon and fork chandelier and took home branded target eye glass frames!
One of our favorite finds of the day were the Bellini flavored wine cocktails, they came in a small enough size for indvidual portions and the ones shown below were strawberry. Delicious!
The coolest bottle design that we couldn’t stop talking about was Valentine Vodka. Not only was their vodka smooth and chilled when tasting it up the pin up girls were a great twist! Additionally it’s a local Michigan based company! (why are there only blondes?)
The tastiest stop at Chicago Gourmet was Labriola Baking Company who shared with us they will soon be announcing their first Chicago location! Their ice cream was unbelievable. Their birthday cake flavor was amazing. We can’t wait until they open in the city!
The neatest find of the whole day was hands down the Mionetto USA tent. They have a line of PURSE WINE! Ladies: Think upscale box wine that looks like a purse. How cute!! We wanted to take one with us, we’ve never seen anything like it before! On top of that they also had flavored wine spritz, perfect to pair with a light lunch or early afternoon treat.
The reason why we enjoy attending Chicago Gourmet is to learn about new or undiscovered brands, flavors and restaurants and having the chance to taste them all! Our fav photo was with the LARGE Chopin Vodka bottle!
Stay tuned for Chicago Gourmet 2014!
